Odd Jobs or "Gigs" for the Unemployed
I have set this blog up for the unfortunate unemployed and underemployed at this time of crisis in the US economy. (Not to exclude international, but I know little in this arena and will post no content thereof.) During times of crisis when people are wondering how they will make thier rent/mortgage until that elusive job is found. Sadly, that could be months down the road!
Besides merely cutting costs, there is hope by doing odd jobs or "gigs". Obviously, what job you can do depends on the skills and resources you have at hand. What can you do or make or sell to earn some cash? Now is not the time to panic and whine to anyone who will listen. Now is the time for action and real self-assessment. You can use your own smarts and labor, your formal or informal skills, whatever. You can harness the power of the mighty Internet, which if you are reading this post, you probably can do (or your spouse or a friend does).
Do you have a truck? An empty garage for a selling space? Do you have a digital camera and are you savvy enough with computer to photograph items you put up for sale on eBay, craigslist or other venue? These are the assets of your temporary "stay out of the hole" business.
What is going on in your local area? How can needs in your locality help you find a way to earn a few extra bucks and maybe even help other people? Who can you team up with that can help?
The bright side: There is the chance that your little side business may become a full-blown business and you will not ever have to work a "straight" job again. At the worst, you will be paid nothing for your time and resources, but you definitely will have learned something.
